Eating our way through Singapore

Nice to meet you

We are Sam and Sophie travelling around the world and exploring

Let me take you through a laid-back tour of our food-filled days in Singapore, where Sophie and I found ourselves happily lost in hawker centers and charmed by local flavors.

Wednesday
Our first stop was Maxwell Food Center, a real crowd favorite. We dug into some Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice that was simply perfect—gentle, tender chicken with fragrant rice, all for just $5. We also grabbed some Bak Kwa, which is basically like sweet, smoky barbecue meat. Not a bad way to kick things off.

Just a short walk away was Lau Pa Sat, an iconic spot where we picked up a mix of treats. The highlight was probably the Laksa from Lau Fu Zi, rich and creamy with a Michelin star, no less. And, of course, we couldn’t resist a $1 pork bun—simple but delicious.

Thursday
We kept things lighter on Thursday with some glass noodles and a refreshing lime juice at Lucky Cafe. But the evening had us at Satay Street next to Lau Pa Sat, munching on skewers of chicken, beef, and prawn satay. Sitting under the night sky with all those flavors felt pretty special.

Friday
On Friday, we explored Haji Lane, grabbing a chicken swarmer at Pasha Mezza and Grill. Later, we wandered into Little India—a feast for both the eyes and the palate. We had some creamy palak paneer and a hearty biryani at Al Haleem. Everything was bursting with flavor, and it felt like we were tasting centuries of tradition.

Saturday
We found ourselves back at Maxwell Food Center on Saturday. It’s hard to stay away from a good thing, right? Another round of that famous chicken rice and then some pork and rice from Fu Shun Shao La Mian Jia just hit the spot. Our evening ended back in Haji Lane with tacos and margaritas at Piedra Negra and a little jazz and desserts at Blu Jazz.

Sunday
Our last day took us back to Lau Pa Sat for some Michelin-starred Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang. It’s amazing how much flavor they pack into a $5 dish. Before heading to the airport, we cooled down with some lime juice. At Changi, I couldn’t pass up the “yummiest brownie in the world” at BUNDT, and finished off with a fancy roast pork and rice.

And just like that, our relaxed, food-filled journey in Singapore wrapped up. It was less about rushing to the next big thing and more about enjoying each bite, each moment. Thanks, Singapore, for the great eats and chill vibes!
